J's new drawing and last tomatoes

Always the best day for me is when I come home and... there is a new art piece done by J :-)
This one - soft drawing pencil on wood.

Maybe this year is not the warmest to grow sweet toatoes, but somehow we still get a reasonable amount of crop.

For anyone with a sweet tooth - Orange & Lemon Polenta & Almond Cake

And of course our neighbours cats [ it is actually three of them! Same breed] - they not only get comfortable in our garden but also in the house!

Last weekend...

... we spent on the beach. Hot and sunny, and it was probably the last day this year we had a chance to swim in the sea?
Botany Bay is where we found the perfect spot. The beach in sandy, water great [with high tide that is!] and there is a lovely little cafe with homemade cakes.

On the beach we found some interesting stones. one looked EXACTLY like a scull, so knew it needed to be "finished off". J got really into it and first drew the sketch and, when I thought all was done he brought the drawing/construction into Photoshop and here is [on the right] what came out of it. He built the bones using just a small sample taken from and original stone= the head!
I love it!

That reminded me of our other stone adventure couple of years ago. We went to Sheerness. Took with us some crayons [never really go anywhere without some sort of drawing equipment...] and looked for stones to draw on.

It was also the beginning of September, like this time, but it was "slightly" cooler ;-) so I happily used my knitted blanket.

and few stones were made - perfect as fridge magnets! Funny and unique. Try the next time you go to the beach :-)

In the garden we got rid of some overgrown weeds. J grew  them for the whole summer thinking that they would be as beautiful as... roses. The weeds did not turn into roses so, at the end, I decided they had to go. But when we cut them down the tiny fluffy seeds flew around making it like the scene from Avatar.

There was more magic in the air in the evening with this amazing sky :-)

Buckles - fetch!

We have already quite an interesting Buckles comic collection. Now, as J has some time off, I have to bring him every day the newspaper [or rather one page from Metro] with Buckles. No day without it.
It is pure genius! And here is one of the examples why:

so... the next time your dog shows no real enthusiasm in outdoor games - you know why!
Good day! :-)

Lazy weekend

Busy week means lazy weekend - this must be one of the major rules of happiness! Crocheting, baking, cooking and eating...

Picking blackberries to add to a cake

made quickly some hot chocolate for J as he run out of chocolate bars [tragedy!]. Although it is in two cups I only had a sip...

and the cake with blackberries... and grapes and couple of apricots.

As we finished the other jam in no time at all [ I think it took us a week to finish 8 small jars] we went to the market to get some fruit for the new batch. It happened to be a very expensive batch, as on our way home we had a puncture in the car's tyre. But it seems like all ended up nicely - we got some yummy jam and the car got two new tyres [they were pretty worn out anyway]!
And we had a visitor again...

In the afternoon we had the simplest savory food ever! -
Cumin, Rosemary, Sea Salt and HomeMade Butter Baked Potatoes with some buttermilk! Yum, yum, yum!!! Because why to eat anything fancy if the simplest things are the best?!
